Yong Teck Lee: "This is my promise to you, that our struggle continues and I will always be by your side"...."Trust and integrity of the leaders are fundamental to the future of a country or a government or, in our case, SAPP as a serious political party of the future"

This is the start, not the finish of our journey

SAPP president Yong Teck Lee accepts his first electoral defeat in 8 outings, and vows to continue his 'Sabah for Sabahan' struggle.

"Yes, this is my first defeat in Batu Sapi. But our party values number six as it means 'resilience'. You fall, and you get up again,"

"You will fight and fight until you win, until you achieve autonomy for Sabah and a better deal for Sabah."

SAPP: Yee eyeing DCM post

Kota Kinabalu, Apr 28, 2009: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) claimed that PBS Deputy President and Api-Api Assemblyman Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai is eyeing the Deputy Chief Minister post held by Datuk Raymond Tan.

Datuk David Chong Ket Sui, a Supreme Councillor of SAPP, said the one and only reason why Yee praised the Chief Minister sky high was because as the longest serving Chinese member of the Cabinet, he sees himself as most qualified to take over from Raymond when the time comes.

"But our Chinese ministers should spend less time lobbying for positions and more time to solve the peoples problems. For instance, power breakdown is again a common occurrence in Sabah, causing huge losses and inconvenience to the people. Our medical service is in a dismal state. The economy is weak and the crime rate is high with no solution in sight to the illegal immigrants problems," he said.

Regarding the Chinese New Year carnivals at Gaya Street, he said it is a shameless boast for Yee to claim that as a significant benefit of the Chinese community under the BN Cabinet. In fact, Chinese cultural activities at Gaya Street have been common ever since the time of the Berjaya and PBS Governments when Yee was still studying overseas.

During the post-1994 BN era, he said similar Chinese cultural activities such as Mooncake Mid-Autumn Festivals were held at Gaya Street. There are also many other more significant, non-political Chinese New Year carnivals held by many Chinese non-Government organizations such as the Chinese clans and guilds associations.

"In the KK City Padang Merdeka, in Sandakan, Tawau, Keningau, Lahad Datu and other districts, annual Chinese New Year gatherings have been held continuously. What Yee did at Gaya Street by using his assemblyman and MP funds is nothing compared to the hard work and voluntary contributions of the Chinese community for several decades," said Chong who is also the SAPP Api-Apir CLC Chairman.
