This motion is necessary because of the arrogance of the PBS members of the BN administration who have repeatedly attacked SAPP, especially its President, Datuk Yong Teck Lee, on the SAS issue. These PBS leaders have over the years made defamatory and malicious statements that Datuk Yong was responsible for the losses suffered by SAS investors. PBS has been suggesting that wrong doings have been committed in SAS's dealing. Its supreme councilor Chin Tek Ming had even tried to mislead the public that Datuk Yong was the Chairman of SAS.

SAPP has been consistent all along that Datuk Yong and SAPP other leaders have nothing to hide and nothing to fear on the SAS issue. If any wrong doing has been committed by Datuk Yong or its two ex-members who were ministers at the time, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah and Datuk Tham Nyip Shen, then they should be exposed and punished. Any wrong doing of political leaders should not be used as bargaining chips to make them obey BN and UMNO. Any attempt to do so by the authorities amounts to political corruption...more

Ku Li insists Kelantan gets 5pc oil royalty

KOTA BHARU, Jan 29 ¡ª Umno veteran Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah has insisted that Kelantan is entitled to a five per cent royalty for oil extracted off its waters, saying it was time to "re-examine the relationship between the states and the federal government".

The Gua Musang MP told a packed Stadium Sultan Mohamed IV last night that national oil firm Petronas was bound by law to give the money to states where oil is found, adding Kelantan was not interested in compassionate payments.

"Kelantan may be poor. But we are not beggars. We demand what is rightfully ours," the Kelantan prince said to cheers and cries of "Allahu Akbar (God is great)" at the last night's gathering organised by the state government over the oil royalty issue.

The PAS government had demanded the oil royalty payment from Petronas last year, after the Statistics Department revealed that Kelantan, together with Sabah and Terengganu, had contributed 62.5 per cent of the oil extracted in Malaysia

The Barisan Nasional-ruled federal government has insisted oil from the joint development area with Thailand was not from part of Kelantan's waters and has only offered RM20 million as "compassionate payment".

Wong: Neglect of Sabah Schools a factor for 'failure'

KOTA KINABALU, January 28, 2010: The 'failure' of the schools from Sabah and Sarawak to make it to the list of the country's top 20 schools is not only questionable, demoralizing and an insult to the teachers and students of the two states, but also a solid proof of the Federal government's neglecting of the various types of schools in the two states, said Datuk Wong Yit Ming, Sabah Progressive Party's (SAPP) Education Bureau Chief.

He pointed this out while commenting on the recent announcement made by the Deputy Prime Minister cum Education Minister, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin on the said list of top 20 schools in the country, which was completely void of schools from the two states.

"It's a known fact that till today Sabah is still facing acute shortage of teachers mainly due to insufficient allocations from the Education Ministry. Many schools in the rural areas of Sabah are still lack of such basic amenities like power and water supply hence, making a mockery of the constant proclamations of teaching Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in the schools," noted Wong in a statement issued here today...more

SAPP: PBS leaders should have the courage to stand up for SAS investors

TAWAU, January 27, 2010: PBS leaders should have the real courage to stand up for the Sabah Amanah Saham (SAS) investors, and to push for a thorough probe into its fiasco, said Yong Chong Kim, a Supreme Council member of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP).

He stressed that this is the appropriate thing for them to do if they are really passionate about the issue and concerned for the SAS investors, as what was reflected in their recent statements highlighting the issue, and conveniently linking it to SAPP President, Datuk Yong Teck Lee, portraying him as the main culprit behind the issue.

He said PBS leaders like its deputy president, Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai, its Vice President Datuk Herbert Timbon Lagadan, its Information Chief, Datuk Johnny Mositun and its People Development Leader (PKR) Kapitan Chin Teck Ming who had been harping on the said issue of late, must not conveniently keep quiet now just simply because Chief Minister of Sabah, Datuk Seri Musa Hj Aman recently dismissed the issue as petty...more

KL, KK urged to provide decent housing to poor

KOTA KINABALU, Jan 18, 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has urged the federal and the state governments to provide decent housing for the hardcore poor in the state.

Its Wanita chief, Melanie Chia, said after almost five decades of independence and despite being endowed with abundance of natural resources, the governments had failed to provide a decent home for hardcore poor like Rohead Nik Dominic who instead received overwhelming sympathy and unconditional help from foreign ambassadors in the country.

"How would you feel if it takes foreign diplomats to help repair dilapidated homes of the rural poor in our own state? And where have all the monies collected from the oil palm and gaming taxes gone to?" she asked in a statement issued here yesterday.

Rohead from Kampung Morion, Kota Marudu, is suffering from Thalassemia.

The boy recently made headlines in local and national newspapers when the deplorable living condition of his family was highlighted following a visit by Croatian Ambassador Zeljko Bosnjak to his dilapidated home.

The Problem is Peninsula's and not Sabah's

By Amde Sidik

Kota Kinabalu, Jan 17, 2010: Amde Sidik, a part-time university law lecturer and local author has this to say on the recent "Allah" controversy... "I hate to be included in the race just because I'm a Muslim it doesn't mean I agree with it.

Who is my wakil to speak on my behalf? I can't remember much nor have I heard in the past if any of the Peninsula's (Semenanjung or Malaya) based ethnic groups ever used word "Allah" when referring to God. Thus no great surprise when some Muslims from this part of the country worked up when they heard non-Muslims from Malaysia Borneo saying it.

For the first time? After 50-odd years? They didn't realise after all that Christians or non-Christians a like (besides Muslims) from Malaysia Borneo refer their God as Allah too.

The hooha-hooha about the word Allah started in Peninsular where the people there never used it, while the irony Malaysians in Borneo used it never even bother to care who owns it-who are most perturbed? Now the battle ground end up in Kuala Lumpur, plain funny!..more

Chong: Herbert's ignorance is a disgrace!

KOTA KINABALU, 12 Jan 2009: Assistant Minister of Community Development and Consumer Affairs Datuk Herbert Timbon Lagadan's excuse for not knowing Sabah Electric Board (SEB) was given to the Federal administration during Berjaya time is because he was not in politics then, does not hold water.

SAPP: Church fire-bombing incidents an indictment of our Malaysian Society

Kota Kinabalu, Jan 9, 2009: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president Datuk Yong Teck Lee, today said the culprits who fire-bombed the three Churches must be brought to justice as soon as possible.

"Justice done will repair, even if to a limited extent, the deep fractures inflicted on Malaysian society by such cowardly actions. Ordinary people who are not deeply involved in religious matters have suddenly become agitated by these incidents. This is a dangerous polarization that is spreading to a wider section of our society.

"The people expect that the Prime Minster's assurances that those responsible will be brought to justice will bear results without any delay. The police force should have by now the prime suspects with the motives to commit such fire-bombings.

"Are the culprits part of a wider conspiracy? Are they pockets of "lost command" who no longer take orders from their leaders? Or are they mere opportunists who want to create chaos in Malaysia to fulfill their hidden agenda? The timing and modus operandi of the three fire-bombing incidents suggest that there is some similarity in the thoughts of the culprits...more

SAPP: People have a right to know

Yong: Everybody knows except Herbert

Kota Kinabalu, Jan 6, 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president, Datuk Yong Teck Lee today said the Sabah Electricity Board (SEB) was handed over by then Berjaya Government to the Federal Government in the 1980's. Everbody knows except Herbert Timbon Lagadan.

"There was little public objection to this federalization of SEB because SEB at the time had failed in its duty to provide reliable electricity supply. The reasoning at the time was that that the Federal Government had the necessary funds and management expertise to resolve the electricity problem. SEB was put directly under the Federal Ministry of Energy as a 100% federal agency. As we know, SEB failed.

"In 1998, the State Government got back some shares in SESB when it was corporatised as a private Limited Company with the expectation that Tenaga Nasional Berhad(TNB) will do better than the Ministry of Energy. Wong said this would be the appropriate thing that Mositun and his party leaders should do instead of repeatedly issuing vague, baseless and misleading statements concerning the issue, which does not help the SAS investors at all, but at the same time unfairly implicating SAPP President, Datuk Yong Teck Lee on the SAS fiasco.

"The people of Sabah have the right to know what's the actual cause of the SAS fiasco and since the PBS are now in the Barisan Nasional, it should hence demand for the State government to come up with a 'white paper' on the issue, so as to inform the people of the truth. Sabah and Sarawak Revisited - Key To A Change of Federal Government?

By Sim Kwang Yang
The running joke going the round in Sabah and Sarawak for decades has been that you hear about these two East Malaysian states only during the daily weather report following prime time news on TV.
Overnight within our new political landscape, these two large and largely forgotten, marginalised and neglected states have been the focus of media attention, thanks to the rumours of mass defection by Sabahan and Sarawakian MPs to the Pakatan Rakyat coalition.

On my recent trip back to my home town of Kuching, I was told that a senior BN Dayak politician has been informed by Anwar Ibrahim that if the federal government should change hand, the chief ministers of Sarawak and Sabah would be a Dayak and a Kadazan respectively. For those who know the politics and the demographic of these two unique states well, such an offer would tip the political scale there in a radical manner.

Then, there is the open offer by Anwar that if the Pakatan Rakyat should take power at the federal level, the oil and gas royalty for Sabah and Sarawak would be raised from 5% to 20%, one way or another. This is a sensitive issue that has hurt the feelings of Sabahans and Sarawakians since the early years of their independence through the formation of Malaysia...more

Form royal probe on Dr M's squandering

By Dr. Mahathir Mohamad...

1. I welcome Lim Kit Siang's proposal for Najib to set up a royal commission on whether I burned RM100 billion on grandiose projects and corruption during my 22-year reign.
2.Such a commission should not be made up of Government nominees but should have as members impeccable people including foreigners and members of Transparency International.
3.The commission should not confine to one Prime Minister only but to Tun Abdullah Badawi's regime.
4.It should include how RM270 billion of Petronas money paid during Abdullah's five-year term was spent; what projects were financed by this huge fund and the cost of all these projects
5.It should include how much money was lost due to the cancellation of the crooked bridge and the Johore Baru to Padang Besar railway...more

GST: Sabah not ready

Kota Kinabalu, 21 Dec 2009: Prices of goods and services all over Sabah would increase with the implementation of the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Secretary General Datuk Richard Yong said prices of goods and services statewide, in particular, at rural areas are already higher and it could increase further the implementation of the GST.

The intended GST replacing the sales and services tax applies to everyone, the wealthy and the poor. Once imposed would definitely caused inflation and hike in prices of goods and services much similar to the effect of hike in petrol price.

The sales and services tax only applies to the rich at urban areas while the poor at rural areas are exempted.

Sabah being the poorest State in the whole of Malaysia, having the lowest income per capita yet has to cope with the highest cost of living.

"The most worrying thing is prices of goods and services at rural areas, which already costly as compared to other areas nationwide would be even higher and causing the poor folks over there to suffer further," he said in a statement, here, today.

He said the imbalances in terms of development, the lesser infrastructure, poor condition of roads and bridges has caused higher transportation costs, here...more

TNB and SESB fails

KOTA KINABALU, 16 Dec 2009: The privatisation of Sabah Electricity Board (SEB) had failed to improve power supply all over Sabah and worst is when the private company, Sabah Electricity Sdn. Bhd. (SESB) is pressing hard for the establishment of a harmful coal-fired power plant.

Commitment an irony, claims SAPP

Kota Kinabalu, Dec 15, 2009: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said the Prime Minister's announcement that the Malaysian Government is willing to offer its commitment to cut its carbon dioxide emission at the Copenhagen climate change summit "is laughable".
Its Deputy President Datuk Eric Majimbun said this is because Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak not long ago also announced that a coal-fired power plant would be built in Lahad Datu.

"It is funny because the country is offering to credibly cut its carbon dioxide emissions while at the same time the Government will build the country's seventh coal-fired power plant which will be in Sabah," he said.

Malaysia presently has six coal-fired power plants, four in the peninsula and two in Sarawak..more

My name is Jack and I am from a small island called Labuan

Item taken from a comment, Dec 14, 2009: I suppose SAPP did read a Chinese newspaper articles about a few days ago regarding the lack of developments on this Island.

As a local boy here, I must admit that there are a lot of basic facilities which are still under developed and being an island with the status of International Business and Financial Centre (IBFC), these incidents should not happen since the beginning.

Sadly speaking, the road condition in Labuan island is worse than the road all the way from Menumbok to Kota Kinabalu. Melanie: Improve the depressing power supply first

KOTA KINABALU, December 10, 2009: The Federal government must not even think of raising the power tariff in Sabah  until and unless it has improved the depressing power supply situation in the State, said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Women Chief, Melanie Chia.

She stressed this while responding to the remark made by Energy, Green Technology and Water Minister Datuk Seri Peter Chin Fah Kui in Parliament on Tuesday, that there's no guarantee that the power tariff in Sabah would not be raised in the near future, citing rising production cost.

Kota Kinabalu, Dec 7, 2009: SABAH Progressive Party (SAPP) Education Bureau Chief Datuk Wong Yit Ming has slammed the Ministry of Education's latest decision to allow SPM candidates to take 12 subjects instead of 10 only, but refused to accept the vernacular subjects i.e. the Chinese and Tamil languages, for Government scholarship (under the Public Service Department) or university entrance qualification.

"This is a grossly unfair and an insult to the Chinese and Indian communities in the country. The Education Minister owes the general public especially the Chinese and the Indian communities on the rationale for not allowing the Chinese and Tamil languages subjects to be qualified for Government scholarship and to qualify for public university entrance," said Wong in a statement issued here today.

He also described the Ministry's backing down from its earlier decision to limit the SPM subjects to 10 subjects only and to increase it to 12 subjects now as a mere "gimmick", since it still does not give proper recognition to vernacular subjects.
