BN Ministers are lost and directionless on illegals
Kota Kinabalu, Monday, 26 July 2010:
Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee today
said that PBS leaders who voiced objections to the proposal to employ illegal
immigrants as workers should not forget that the proposal is a direct
result of PBS President Tan Sri Joseph Pairin Kitingan's call in February
to include illegal immigration in a "special laboratory" under the "National Key Results Areas" of the Government Transformation Programme.
"This was later supported by UPKO President cum Federal Minister Tan Sri
Bernard Dompok. The proposal was only made public by the federal Deputy
Minister of Human Resources this month when he quoted from the "special
lab" recommendations.
"In fact, on 25 May 2010, PBS Publicity Chief Datuk Johnny Mositun had
called on the government to "regularize these workers officially" when he
voiced objections to the federal government's intention to raise foreign
workers levies. This was echoed by the Chief Minister on the same day who
had said that the proposals from the State government labs on foreign
workers would be finalised by end of May. Therefore, PBS Vice President
Datuk Herbert Timbun Lagadan who is an assistant minister should not be
ignorant on how the proposal to employ illegal immigrants came about.
"In order to cover up PBS's own total failure in solving the illegal
immigrants issue, which was the key reason given by PBS to rejoin BN in
2002, Herbert has once again chosen to attack SAPP and myself over
the illegal immigrants issue ...more
Stop Kimanis-Bintulu gas siphoning
SAPP maintains that Sabah should keep its natural
gas for local industries
KOTA KINABALU, July 25, 2010: The State government should not have agreed
to or allowed Petronas to siphon the natural gas from offshore of Sabah
all the way to Bintulu, Sarawak in the first place, if it was really
serious about developing the local industries, the oil and gas industry in
particular, said Luyang State Assemblywoman, Melanie Chia.
For the same token, Petronas should not have even think of such a plan let
alone pushing for it despite strong objection from the people of Sabah,
besides Federal Cabinet's instruction (to Petronas) to give priority to
Sabah if the State required the resources, as what has been noted by
Plantation Industries and Commodity Minister Tan Sri Bernard Dompok in his
statement two months ago.
Dompok also noted that there was a guarantee that no gas will be
transported to Sarawak through the Kimanis-Bintulu pipeline if there is a
need for gas in Sabah.
Melanie who is also the Women Chief for Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP)
contended this while responding to a statement by State Industrial
Development Minister, Datuk Raymond Tan Shu Kiah on Friday, that Petronas
will only agree to let Sabah keep a portion of the gas channeled to the Sabah Oil and Gas Terminal if it is able to substantially build up its
infrastructure and manpower to support the oil and gas industry in Sabah.
She further contended that the siphoning of Sabah natural gas to Sarawak
clearly showed that Petronas was never sincere to allow Sabah to develop
its gas industry.
"They (Petronas) have been taking our resources since 1976. Until today,
we do not see any development in gas downstream industries in Sabah. This
somehow caused many people to wonder why a state like Melaka which has no
natural gas and oil can have downstream industries in oil and gas," she

DPM's outright rejection of Labuan bridge proposal a shock and a disgrace
Kota Kinabalu, Friday, July 24, 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) President Datuk Yong Teck Lee today
sait the Deputy Prime Minister's outright
rejection of the Labuan bridge proposal on financial grounds came as a shock to
the people of Labuan and mainland Sabah and a disgrace to the government.
"At the very least, the DPM should have given the proposal a chance at the
mid-term review of the 10th Malaysia Plan in two years' time. So much high
hopes have been given to the people of Labuan when Universiti Malaysia
Sabah (UMS) was given RM5 million to conduct the feasibility study, of
which only RM1.4 million was spent.
"The DPM has brushed aside the immense positive economic and social impact
that would benefit Labuan and mainland Sabah, especially the Klias
Peninsula, once the bridge has been completed. Travelling between Labuan
and the mainland would become safer, faster and open 24-hour daily.
Labuan's international airport would become a viable hub for travellers
between Labuan and Sabah, northern Sarawak and even Brunei. The direct
beneficiaries of the Labuan hub are Labuan, Kuala Penyu, Sipitang,
Beaufort and the surrounding areas.
"Tourism, investment and commercial activities would flourish which in turn
will bring tax revenues for the government, eventually far exceeding the
RM3 billion cost of the bridge ...more
SAPP's Liew re-submits motion to have White paper on SAS
KOTA
KINABALU, July 23, 2010: Likas Assemblyman and SAPP Deputy President Datuk Liew Teck Chan
has re-submitted his motion to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)
Speaker asking the State Government to table a White paper on the Saham
Amanah Sabah (SAS) during the upcoming sitting.
In his letter addressed to Speaker Datuk Juhar Haji Mahirudin, Liew said
he had actually submitted the motion during the previous DUN sitting but
it was not executed. The motion was void on the excuse of "defeated by
time".
Expressing frustration over the unprecedented decision to avoid any
motion, he said this has never happened and that his motion has actually
already been accepted and put into meeting arrangement during previous
sitting and thus was supposed to have tabled them.
Hoping this time around the motion would be tabled, Liew said it is meant
to ask the State Government to explain the truth about SAS and the reasons
for its value drop in 1997 and 1998.
He said explanation on this is vital because of several factors, among
others, that SAS has been a subject of debate by leaders of Parti Bersatu

Hundreds gather at site for proposed coal-plant
protest
LAHAD DATU,
July 23, 2010: Some 400 people gathered on Saturday at the
site for a proposed coal-fired power plant asking the government to stop
the plan.
Comprising villagers from Kampung Sinakut and locals from Lahad Datu, the
group held up banners saying they do not want a coal-fired plant, as it
would have a negative impact on the environment.
They gathered at Sinakut, which is the site for the proposed plant, as a
sign of solidarity and opposition towards the project which happens to be
at the shores of the Coral Triangle, an area that harbours rich marine
life.
Sinakut village headman Mr Jimi Uddin said locals were concerned about the

No sincerity
on illegal immigrants problem
Kota Kinabalu,
July 22, 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Secretary-General Datuk
Richard Yong We Kong today said the BN government which ruled Sabah for
the last 16 years had all along shown no sincerity in helping Sabah resolve
the illegal immigrants problem. He said this when commenting on the Home
Minister Datuk Seri Hishammuddin who said, "perhaps, this was the first
time the issue of illegal immigrants in Sabah being looked at in holistic
manner..." therefore suggesting that the Federal Government had never look
at this problem seriously before.
"In fact the Federal and State Government had got all the information and
data concerning the issues. As far back as during PBS's time as state
government an amnesty exercise had been carried out and data on the
immigrants had been collected.
"During BN regularization exercise the National Security Council has had
the Indonesian Consulate setting up offices in various parts of Sabah to
help process documents for the Indonesian to facilitate them in getting
work permits. At the time the consulate officers from the Philippines
Embassy were posted to Sabah to process documents for their citizens. The
National Security Council help implemented the exercise and is having all
the documents and data with them.
"The Special Task Force, the Immigration Department, the Armed
Forces,
Maritime and joint Military Task Force had jointly carried out one
operation after another. They had the experiences, the know-how and the
facilities. They are totally capable of performing their duty. What is
really being required is the sincerity and the political will on the part
of the BN government to resolve this problem....more

Coal's Assault on Human Health
Coal pollutants affect all major body organ systems and contribute
to four of the five leading causes of mortality in the U.S.: heart
disease, cancer, stroke, and chronic lower respiratory diseases.
This conclusion emerges from our reassessment of the widely
recognized health threats from coal. Each step of the coal
lifecycle-mining, transportation, washing, combustion, and disposing
of post combustion wastes-impacts human health. Coal combustion in
particular contributes to diseases affecting large portions of the
U.S. population, including asthma, lung cancer, heart disease, and
stroke, compounding the major public health challenges of our time.
It interferes with lung development, increases the risk of heart
attacks, and compromises intellectual capacity.
Oxidative stress and inflammation are indicated as possible
mechanisms in the exacerbation and development of many of the
diseases under review. In addition, the report addresses another,
less widely recognized health threat from coal: the contribution of
coal combustion to global warming, and the current and predicted
health effects of global warming ...more

Mercy for the rich, cruelty to the poor
KOTA KINABALU, July 21, 2010: The Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) has questioned the
rationale of continuing to pamper tolled highway operators while slashing
food and fuel subsidies that benefit the poor.
SAPP deputy chief Eric Majimbun said it was unfair for the government
to reduce the subsidies on essential goods such as sugar and cooking gas,
which makes the poor in Sabah poorer, while seeing it fit to continue to
subsidise highway concession holders and users of toll roads.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Idris Jala has said that the
government could save RM3.7 billion over five years if it allowed toll
rates to be increased in the middle of the year as per the concession
agreements for highways with alternative toll-free routes.
The government spends RM4.6 billion a year in toll subsidies.
Works Minister Shaziman Abu Mansor said last month that the Cabinet had
not yet decided to withdraw the toll subsidies.
"This is blatantly unfair," said Majimbun, who is the MP for Sepanggar.
"The government continues to waste billions of ringgit on toll
subsidies, which do not benefit the poor because not many of them can

Does SAPP has a hidden

When asked where did you people get this kind of cheap news mongering? The
typical answer would be - 'ya la we heard from here and there'.
Because they want my answer, in short I would reply, if there

things, you think I would be with this party? I disagree with very many
things what BN government is doing, especially with the way UMNO rules this

I therefore wouldn't mind to be out of the party at any time

NGO: Najib 'misinformed' on Sabah energy options
Jul 21, 2010: A coalition of NGOs opposing the proposed
coal-powered plant in Sabah's east coast has challenged Prime Minister
Najib Abdul Razak's claim that there were few options about energy in
Sabah, saying the premier was misinformed on the state's energy production
potential.
"We want to stress that we have natural gas which we should be using
locally for our power needs. We are not only talking about renewable
energy from biomass waste, which in any case, studies have shown to be a
cost-competitive option to coal," said Wong Tack, a member of the
coalition known as Green Surf (Sabah Unite to Re-power the Future).
The coalition further claimed that the ruling BN government loses nothing
in scrapping plans to use coal, which they called a "dirty source of
energy", and instead use natural gas which is readily available in the
state.
Wong disputed claims that the coal plant was the best solution, saying it
would take three years to complete just the first phase of the plan, while
natural gas power plants could be up and running in two years.
Furthermore, he said, gas was already in immediate supply, while
coal had to be imported ...more

SAPP to BN: Get the priorities right!

regret and disgust over the government's recent antics of providing

impoverished areas in Sabah.
SAPP Information Chief, Chong Pit Fah described such antics as yet another
gimmick by the Barisan Nasional (BN) government to ˇ®fish for votes',
blatantly disregarding the people's real needs which he stressed should be
given top priority.
"It is a big insult to the people of Sabah because computers are not the

Chua: govt's bluff over coal power
KOTA KINABALU, July 17, 2010: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak was either lying or
betraying his ignorance when he said that coal was the only viable source
of power generation in Sabah. Tawau MP Chua Soon Bui said in a statement
today that the government had been misleading the public about the
necessity of setting up a coal-fired power plant on the Sabah east coast
and its impact on the environment.
Najib himself may have been misled by his advisers, she added.
Citing recent testimonies by experts engaged by the Ministry of Energy,
Green Technology and Water, she said it appeared that the government and
power companies had not been telling the truth when championing the use of
coal for power generation.
According to a recent briefing by Korean specialists, she said, coal-fired
plants emitted the largest amount of carbon dioxide among power
generators.
She also referred to a report released last March by the University of
California, which gave detailed recommendations of how Sabah could meet
its energy needs through renewable energy options.
A recent conference of Malaysian researchers had also concluded that there
were green and renewable alternatives to coal, she noted.
Chua asked if the government would still proceed with the plan to build a
coal-fired plant in Lahad Datu in the light of such findings...more

Explain lost billions before touting 'people first' slogan
SHAH ALAM, July 13, 2010: Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak should stop
touting his "people first..." slogan and first explain the scandals and the
leaks involving billions of ringgit which have underlined decades of
Umno-Barisan Nasional rule.

Tan's challenge to Najib's Felda

FMT EXCLUSIVE PETALING JAYA: PKR supreme council member Tan Kee Kwong was
recently thrust into the political spotlight after posting an open letter
to Prime Minister Najib Tun Razak in early June.
In his letter, the former deputy minister of land and cooperatives accused
Najib and the government of mismanaging Federal Land Development Authority
(Felda) funds.
The former Segambut MP and WP Gerakan chief alleged that Felda's cash
reserves had dropped by more than RM4 billion to about RM200 million this
year.
Tan also questioned the need for the government-linked company to invest
RM660 million in a "five-star" office building.
Government reaction to the allegation was both swift and heavy-handed.
Former Felda liaison director and Deputy Minister in the Prime Minister's
Department, Ahmad Maslan, announced that Felda was going to sue Suara
