SAPP's Liew re-submits motion to have White paper on SAS
KOTA
KINABALU, July 23, 2010: Likas Assemblyman and SAPP Deputy President Datuk Liew Teck Chan
has re-submitted his motion to the State Legislative Assembly (DUN)
Speaker asking the State Government to table a White paper on the Saham
Amanah Sabah (SAS) during the upcoming sitting.
In his letter addressed to Speaker Datuk Juhar Haji Mahirudin, Liew said
he had actually submitted the motion during the previous DUN sitting but
it was not executed. The motion was void on the excuse of "defeated by
time".
Expressing frustration over the unprecedented decision to avoid any
motion, he said this has never happened and that his motion has actually
already been accepted and put into meeting arrangement during previous
sitting and thus was supposed to have tabled them.
Hoping this time around the motion would be tabled, Liew said it is meant
to ask the State Government to explain the truth about SAS and the reasons
for its value drop in 1997 and 1998.
He said explanation on this is vital because of several factors, among
others, that SAS has been a subject of debate by leaders of Parti Bersatu
Sabah (PBS) since it was in the opposition and until now as the Barisan
Nasional component.
He said the PBS leaders, especially its Deputy President and Resource
Development and Information Technology Minister and Api-Api Assemblyman
Datuk Yee Moi Choi; his Political Secretary John Lim; Vice President and
Assistant Community Development and Consumer Affairs Minister and
Kadamaian Assemblyman Datuk Herbert Timbon Lagadan; Information Chief and
Deputy Speaker Datuk Johnny Mositun; Supreme Council Member and Luyang
People Development Leader and Chinese kapitan Chin Teck Min: who have
repeatedly made accusation and debating in the local newspapers on former
Chief Minister Datuk Yong Teck Lee, as if there were corrupt or illegal
elements in the collapse of SAS in 1997 and 1998.
He said they have misled the rakyat by portraying Yong had done wrong and
directly involved in determining SAS investment in certain companies
concerned.
He said the present Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Haji Aman had also
issued a statement saying that the SAS issue is a petty issue, but they
continued to issue statements that confuse the rakyat and giving the
impression that the SAS collapse was due to Yong's mishandling.
Liew hope appropriate consideration will be given on the motion for the
benefit of public and SAS shareholders.
