Motion to table QEH issue denied
Kota Kinabalu,
Apr 23, 2009: A motion to
table the issue on the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) by Luyang
assemblywoman Melanie Chia was denied by the State Speaker
yesterday.
The Speaker Datuk Juhar Mahiruddin said a solution had been found
in the form of the proposed Kinarut Hospital.
Melanie had sought under the Standing Order 23 (1) to table the
motion as she said the tower block of QEH was deemed unsafe and
since then patients have been relocated to the Sabah Medical Centre
(SMC) and nearby hospitals.
"Since the main block has been vacated, city folks constantly
hear the sounds of ambulance sirens coming from QEH, SMC, Hospital
Likas, Hospital Mesra Bukit Padang and hospitals around the city
area and from as far as Beaufort." Melanie claimed.
She also said that patients had to wait very long to get medical
attention including surgery, to the point that many have resorted to
seeking treatment in private hospitals or in some cases eventually
passed away.
The Speaker said the proposed Kinarut Hospital would be able to
serve the districts of Penampang, Papar and Putatan.
