SAPP promise QEH petition would reach Prime Minister

KOTA KINABALU,10 Nov 2009: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) assured people that a petition will reach Prime Minister urging him to immediately solve the more than one year crisis beleaguering Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH), here.

SAPP Information Chief Chong Pit Fah said the party was prevented to hand over the petition to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak on Saturday at the Kota Kinabalu International Airport, here, due to obstruction from the authority.

Chong said SAPP understands the plight of the people statewide who yearns for better health and medical care services when the main tower block of QEH was declared unsafe since November 2008.

"Kota Kinabalu city has only one general hospital while Sabah also has only one referral hospital and unfortunately it is the QEH," he said, in a statement, here, today.

He said the closure of the only general hospital in the city and referral hospital for the whole Sabah causing hardship to the people especially those who needs immediate medical attention.

According to him, some patients of the hospital were forced to sleep and even receive treatments on the floors and such bad situation only invite stress to the doctors, medical staffs, the patients and their family members.

He added that the petition carry more than 4,000 signatures and SAPP would like to thank the signatories and assured the petition will reach Prime Minister.

He further said that SAPP disappointed with Sabah BN leaders, in particular, the Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman who brought Najib to nice places but the QEH during the Prime Minister's two days visit here.

He said, however, SAPP thanked the Youth and Wanita Wings of the Liberal Democratic Party (LDP), a BN component member, for deliberating about QEH crisis during their party's congress last weekend thus recognising SAPP's struggle for the needs of the people.

He added that the other BN components in Sabah have never care about the QEH crisis let alone the poor conditions of health and medical care services statewide.

Chong said SAPP promised the people of Sabah that they will never stop fighting to make sure the crisis that badly affected the health and medical care services all over the State solved without further delay.
