Chong: Dream come true for Yee?
KOTA KINABALU, May 10, 2009:
Datuk Dr Yee Moh Chai can dream on to become the next Deputy Chief
Minister, said Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Information Chief.
He said this was in view of the fact that Yee's Party boss, Datuk
Seri Panglima Joseph Pairin Kitingan, is currently also the Deputy
Chief Minister.
"Unless Datuk Pairin is stepping down to give way to Dr Yee, I don't
think the other Barisan Nasional component parties would be happy to
see two DCMs from the same party.
"Hence, we believe that Raymond would still get to retain his
current positions in the State Cabinet, unless something had gone
terribly wrong between him and the Chief Minister, which we are not
aware of," said Chong in a statement issued here yesterday.
He was commenting on the recent news reports in the local Chinese
newspapers over the rife speculations that Dr Yee who is currently
the State Resource Development and Information Technology Minister,
might get to be appointed the Deputy Chief Minister to replaced the
incumbent who is currently facing mounting pressure from he various
state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties to resign from his
post.
He claimed that Chief Minister Datuk Seri Musa Aman was expected to
make an announcement soon on Raymond's position, with a minor
reshuffle to his Cabinet.
"No wonder Dr. Yee who had been conspicuously quiet on many issues
affecting the people of Sabah of late had been enthusiastically
making a series of public statements praising the Chief Minister
over a number of issues," quipped Chong.
Among others, he noted that Yee had been praising the Chief Minister
over such issues like the allocation of annual funds for the Chinese
primary and independent schools and Chinese temples in the State,
the purchase of Sabah Medical Centre and, the allocation of a piece
of land in Kudat to the Hainan Federation of Sabah and Labuan for
the construction of the Mazu Sea Goddess's statue.
He however contended that Yee who is also the Api-Api Assemblyman
should be more forthcoming in informing the people of Sabah, the
Chinese community especially, of the State government policies,
programs and plans that would benefit them, and at the same time to
diligently question those which would bound to affect them, instead
of going all out to praise the Chief Minister simply because he saw
an opening for him to realize his ultimate political agenda of
becoming the Deputy Chief Minister (under the Chinese community's
quota).
Chong also said it was especially interesting to note that Dr. Yee
who is a non-Buddhist or Taoist seems to be spearheading the
construction of the Mazhu statue by the Hainan Federation of Sabah
and Labuan , instead of the Assistant Minister to the Chief
Minister, Datuk Edward Khoo, who is a Buddhist.
The other two Chinese leaders namely Raymond and Datuk Peter Pang of
the LDP who are also entrusted to ensure the smooth implementation
of the said project are also non-Buddhist or Taoist.
Chong thus quipped that Sabah would soon have a twin Mazu statues,
especially if former Chief Minister cum Chairman of the Kudat Thean
Hou Charitable Foundation, Tan Sri Chong Kah Kiat wins his case
against the State Government, and gets to proceed with the
construction of his Mazu statue project.
He quipped that if this happens, Sabah would join the prestigious
clique of " Malaysia's Twins" such as the Petronas Twin Towers in
Kuala Lumpur and the "Twin Menteri Besars and Speakers" in Perak, as
the result of the ongoing Constitutional crisis there.
He however was sad to note that the construction of the Twin Towers
of the Queen Elizabeth Hospital (QEH) has been left abandoned for
more than a year now, and yet both the Federal and the State
governments including Yee had been quiet on the matter all these
while.
