Yong: Mositun's statement mischievous, casting aspersions

Kota Kinabalu, Jan 4, 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) president, Datuk Yong Teck Lee, stated that the BN government should go ahead and conduct a full probe into the SAS's activities from its time of launching on 23 June 1994 to the present day.

"The full facts must be made known to the public. Do not hide the facts. Facts do not change, opinions do. The full facts will probably shock Johnny Mositun, Yee Moh Chai and Chin Tek Ming," Yong said in responding to Mositun's statement in the press recently.

"By mentioning only my name out of the blue, and unprovoked, in his original statement January 1, Johnny Mositun was mischievously casting aspersions on my reputation and character. His mention of my name was neither neutral nor positive. He did not mention any other Chief Ministers as though no SAS shares were bought during the time of any other Chief Ministers. Therefore, he cannot feign ignorance.

"Minister Datuk Dr. Yee used to be very keen on SAS matters. He had thought that I was involved in the so-called "SAS fiasco". He condemned the BN government in the elections of 1999 over SAS, phantom voters, SESB and other issues. My police report of 26 June 2007 says that he is in possession of malpractices involving SAS. Suddenly, he has lost his urge to speak out for the people, particularly the investors of SAS. I wonder why.

"If I have been involved or have done anything wrong, then this BN government has a duty to expose me so that the people will know what a bad Chief Minister I have been from May 1996 to May 1998. Do it now so that there is time to for the people to know the whole truth and make a fair judgment. If I have done anything wrong, then take action against me. Use the MACC, the Penal Code or any other laws at the government's disposal. Do not wait until the next general elections are near. Do not manipulate the MACC or police for political purposes.

"For instance, at the hour on the day of the SAPP Supreme Council meeting on June 20, 2008 on the vote of no confidence against the then Prime Minister, the then ACA Director General (Datuk Seri Ahmad Said Hamdan) issued a statement at 12:32pm that I was under investigation over something that happened 13 years ago. It was intended to scare, not me, but BN MPs from voicing out against the government. It could not scare me because I told the SAPP Supreme Council that if I had done anything wrong, then I will accept the consequences, be charged and go to jail. But I will not allow SAPP's struggle to be compromised just because of continuing threats and conspiracy against me and SAPP.

"Just three days earlier, June 17, on the eve of the SAPP MPs' declaration of no confidence on the Prime Minister, the PM's Office had faxed a nomination form to me to be appointed Senator. Considering this a political bribery, I did not accept. I know that before a person is nominated for the Senate, his background, income tax cases, corruption or other criminal investigations have to be cleared before hand. Three days later, the ACA threat came about. It did not make sense.

"I now call on the BN leader to have more respect for their fellow Malaysians. ISA, ACA and OSA are political weapons that can only work if the people fear those weapons. Once fear is missing, then the weapons are useless," Yong said.
