SAPP forging ahead with new alliance

KOTA KINABALU, January 23, 2016: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is forging ahead with new alliance in the New Year.

"We are no longer operating alone for the year 2016," said SAPP president Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee during the party's 22nd Anniversary dinnere at a seafood restaurant near here on Thursday night.

Yong said the New Year (2016) is the year for the United Sabah Alliance (USA) and that two political parties comprising Parti Cinta Sabah (PCS) headed by Dr Nicholas Games Guntobon, who was a practising medical doctor, and STAR as well as several non-governmental organisations (NGOs) had joined the alliance.

He said several other political parties would be joining the alliance in the future, but he did not name them.

"We expect that the United Sabah Alliance can get together in time for the next election," he said.

Yong also reminded those attending the event that if Sabahans could get together what they had started, ideally the movement for Sabah's full autonomy would be a powerful movement in the new Malaysia to come.

He then explained that the term "New Malaysia" referred to a Malaysia that will no longer monopolised by any single political party or group.

"This is the chance for Sabah and Sarawak so they can be strong in this nation," he said.

USA chairman, veteran politician Datuk Haji Mohd Noor Mohd Mansor (left) said in his speech that the people of Sabah were the only ones who could make improvements or address issues relating to the State.

He added that as such, only the people of Sabah could resolve issues afflicting the State.

He reminded those in attendance of a certain political figure (non-Sabahan) who had once promised to resolve Sabah's issues within 100 days but failed to do so.

He then explained that the United Sabah Alliance now comprised the combination of three political parties as well as NGOs and that these would pave the way for them to fight Barisan Nasional (BN).

He also reminded that Sabah was only claiming what were her rights.

SAPP targets 1,000 youths for its Evo Camp

KOTA KINABALU: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) aspires to get 1,000 Sabahan youths to take part in its Evo Camp.

SAPP president, Datuk Seri Panglima Yong Teck Lee said during a dinner to celebrate the party's 22nd anniversary held at a restaurant near here on Thursday night said they were aiming to achieve that number of participants for their Evo Camp within the next three years.

He added that the participants would undergo syllabus in motivation as well as in the history of the country.

"We have decided to introduce history as a new syllabus so that our youths will become aware of the country's history," said Yong.

He noted that the teaching of history at schools no longer included topics such as the 20 points, the Double Six incident in Sembulan and even the Atkinson Tower.

Hence, he said, many participants of the camp last year found the historical details given to them interesting and striking.

"They realised that Malaysia never achieved independence, Malaya achieved independence, Sabah achieved independence, Sarawak achieved independence. Each, of these achieved their independence individually and after that, the Federation of Malaysia was formed. That is why we celebrate Malaysia Day. For the young, they find this very striking," said Yong.

The objective of including history in the Evo Camp syllabus was also to create a future generation of Sabahans who were courageous and aware of the nation's history," said Yong.

He then added that knowing historical facts were crucial as they teach us what to do in order to reach our destination.

He also said that there were three sites where the Evo Camps were carried out: Lahad Datu, Keningau and here.
