SAPP applies Blue Ocean Strategy
KOTA KINABALU, 21 Jan 2010: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) is going all
out to woo the 34 per cent registered voters statewide who did not cast
ballot during the 12th general election in 2008.
SAPP Wanita Chief Melanie Chia said the number is huge and could decide
the outcome of the coming 13th general election here.
"Majority of them are between 21 and 35 years old. They could bring
victory to us in the coming election," she said at the ' Blue Ocean '
talks, which was held at a local hotel, here, yesterday.
Present at the talks were SAPP President Datuk Seri Yong Teck Lee, Deputy
President cum Likas Assemblyman Datuk Liew Teck Chan, Vice President cum
Tawau Member of Parliament Datuk Dr. Chua Soon Bui, Youth Chief Edward
Dagul, Information Chief Chong Pit Fah and other party leaders.
The 2008 general election saw only 66 per cent of the total registered
voters in Sabah cast ballots.
The Barisan Nasional (BN) got 42 per cent while 24 per cent votes went to
the opposition.
Blue Ocean Strategy is a strategy to break the boundary and look for new
voters.
The strategy could be divided into few tiers such as members who are no
doubt would vote the party.
There are also supporters or sympathisers who would vote the party
although they are not party members.
"Those registered but never bother to vote must be courted. They are
mostly young but in big number and could be the king maker,"Melanie who is
also Luyang Assemblywoman said.
She said many young Sabahans had left for Kuala Lumpur in search of jobs
but they end up jobless and homeless in the national capital, and the sad
news had made headlines recently.
"They would certainly vote us if we could lay down a plan that could
create ample job opportunities for them once SAPP form the next government
so that they need not have to go to KL anymore. Their parents would also
vote us then for providing jobs to their children," she added.
Melanie said thus would pull more and more people to vote for SAPP making
it possible for the party to form the next government.
She said the unexplored non-voters who are qualified but not registered
should not be forgotten as their number is also big.
