Liew inspects Taman Fantasi landslide

Kota Kinabalu, July 3, 2010: State assemblyman for Likas Datuk Liew Teck Chan, made a visit to Taman Fantasi in Likas after he received complaints from the residents there on the recent landslide problem.

The landslides caused by heavy rains for the last one month destroyed backyard fences with heavy mud flow from the hill behind.

Liew, who is also Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Deputy President, inspected the area together with the Public Works Department and KK City Hall engineers, contractors, to assess the situation.

The affected victims complained of slow response from the authorities when they called up for emergency help and hoped the clean-up works can be speedily undertaken to set their houses in order. They also hoped the authorities come up with a long term solution to the landslide problems of their area.

The residents were unable to sleep when it rained during the night for fear of their lives and properties.

The engineers said the primary task is to speed up the clean-up of the area followed by opening up the blocked drainage while a study to be conducted (soil test) to explore a long term solution on the slope. Among other options is to build a retaining wall.
