Yong Teck Lee: "This is my promise to you, that our struggle continues and I will always be by your side"...."Trust and integrity of the leaders are fundamental to the future of a country or a government or, in our case, SAPP as a serious political party of the future"

This is the start, not the finish of our journey

SAPP president Yong Teck Lee accepts his first electoral defeat in 8 outings, and vows to continue his 'Sabah for Sabahan' struggle.

"Yes, this is my first defeat in Batu Sapi. But our party values number six as it means 'resilience'. You fall, and you get up again,"

"You will fight and fight until you win, until you achieve autonomy for Sabah and a better deal for Sabah."

8,616 green ICs reissued to stateless persons

KOTA KINABALU, Mar 20, 2009: As of 25 February, 2009, the National Registration Department (NRD) had re-issued a total of 8,616 green ICs (identity cards meant for temporary residents) to stateless persons in this country, while there were 30,056 stateless persons who have yet to come forward to renew theirs.

The Dewan Rakyat was recently told this by the Home Minister in his reply to questions raised by the Member of Parliament for Tawau, Datuk Dr Chua Soon Bui, who inquired over the measures and plans taken by the Home Ministry to deal with the stateless children issue facing Sabah.

She had wanted to know the number of stateless children in Sabah that have been registered by the Department.

The Home Minister noted that the green ICs were issued to those with the 'stateless' status i.e. persons born in Malaysia issued with Malaysian birth certificate but do not possess any particulars on their parents.

The issuance of the green ICs was stopped in Jan 2005 but later resumed on 6 October, 2008.

As for Sabah, from the period of 6 October 2008 to 31 Jan 2009, the NRD received a total of 4,142 applications for the green IC. Out of this figure, 3,770 green ICs were issued with the balance of 372 were still being processed.

The Home Minister also revealed that on 1 Nov 2008, his Ministry has also taken the initiative to establish a special task force to handle the stateless children issue through which, the NRD conducted the ‘My Daftar’ Program in Peninsular Malaysia and the 'Special Mobile Unit' in Sabah and Sarawak, to register these stateless children and such effort was still ongoing.
