2010 Jan 14 - Chua: Tawau needs 2 1Malaysia clinics

Chua: Tawau needs two '1Malaysia clinics'

Tawau, Jan 14, 2020: Member of Parliament for Tawau Datuk Chua Soon Bui,  hopes the public can make full use of the service provided by the 1Malaysia clinic which was opened on the 7/1/2010 at Bandar Sri Indah at mile 10, Jalan Apas.

Chua, who is also the Vice President of Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) said that when the 50 new 1Malaysia clinics were proposed under the 2010 budget in October, 2009 in the parliament, she made a request for two "1Malaysia Clinics" to be introduced in Tawau, one at Jalan Apas and another at Sin On.

"The clinic in Jalan Apas can cater for the needs of the rural areas in Balung and Apas. The clinic at Sin On can cater for the needs of the dense population the area. She was glad that at least one has started in Tawau, which is one of the 4 in Sabah among the 50 newly launched 1Malaysia clinics in Malaysia.

The other three in Sabah are in Kota Kinabalu, Penampang and Sandakan.

She said Tawau is a big constituency and feedbacks through her mobile services that many villagers in the rural villages are deprived of medical care and treatment as they couldn't afford the transport. Many are still ignorant of the causes and prevention of diseases such as diabetic, high blood pressure, TB and so forth which are increasing. She said this while visiting the 1Malaysia Clinic, greeted by Mr. Masdah Enti, its medical assistant officer or Penolong Pegawai Perubatan (Tawau Federal Health department), Dr. Asmah, in charge of all rural clinic, Mr. Sulaiman Delamat, Assistant Medical officer in charge of the 1Malaysia clinic, Matron Marina and Mr. Alkuhahry Abas, ambulance driver.

Mr. Hj Masdah Enti said the 1 Malaysia clinic opens from 10am to 10 pm daily for 7 days a week and also on all public holidays. 4 staffs will station at the clinic with Dr Asmah doing her mobile round. The clinic will cater for some acute cases and some emergency needs such as asthma, common ailments like fever, flu, cough, diarrhea, especially among the children and elderly. Some of the very serious cases would be referred to Tawau Hospital, or with the help of the ambulance in emergency cases. He said the clinic has just been set up and is awaiting for equipments and facilities to arrive. The public is welcome to visit so that they can be familiarized with the service. They will ensure the 1Malaysia clinic is a people friendly clinic.

Dr Asmah said blood tests will also be done at or through the clinic, this is a one stop centre charge at RM1 only for Malaysian citizens.

Chua hopes the clinic can also provide an emergency line for the public to enquire especially during emergency cases. She also hoped that the clinic can provide some basic emergency equipment to cater for heart attacks and strokes as it would take another 20 minutes to seek treatment at the Tawau general hospital.

Chua also met Mr. Ng Kon Yin, a resident from Apas Parit whose foot was hurt by a falling Oil Palm fruit. He sought treatment at the clinic after reading about it in the newspaper. He was grateful that he could be treated there fast not having to travel a long distance to town and taking the queue to be treated.
