Save the Beach Signature Campaign
KINABALU, July 28, 2012: Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) Tanjung Aru CLC
members today gathered at the Tanjung Aru beach sending a strong message
to the government asking the government to protect the Tanjung Aru beach
from alienation, reclamation and pollution.
They conducted a signature campaign to solicit the support of the people
to voice against any commercial development at the nearby beach land.
A bill has been passed recently at State Legislative Assembly to prevent
1550 hectares of seafront land from being alienated.
SAPP supported the bill but questioned why it has not included the Tanjung
Aru beach and nearby seafronts?
SAPP wants the government to at least extend the protection of the sea
front in Kota Kinabalu area from that of Tanjung Lipat up to Tanjung Aru
Beach front in order to make the protection more complete.
They also voiced against commercial development on any state lands near
the Tanjung Aru beach.
